Two men were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of trying to pass counterfeit $100 bills in Seal Beach.

Michael Richardson, 24, of Bakersfield, and Zackery Brazeal, 33, of Santa Rosa, were also arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property and possession of forgery equipment, according to Seal Beach police Sgt. Michael Henderson.

A suspect attempted to pay for goods at a Vons grocery store at 1101 Pacific Coast Highway about 12:30 p.m., Henderson said. Store employees realized the bills were phony and alerted police.

The suspect left the store before police arrived. Store employees got a description of the vehicle the suspect left in with another suspect, Henderson said.

A Seal Beach officer spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s car near Second Street and Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach and detained the driver and passenger, Henderson said.

The vehicle was reported stolen, Henderson said.
