A motorist was killed while triggering a four-vehicle crash in Brea, a police lieutenant said Sunday.
The motorist was identified as Elizabeth Harkins, 59, according to the Orange County Coroner’s Office.
Harkins, driving a 2014 Nissan Sentra southbound on Brea Boulevard on Saturday night, rear-ended a 2015 Mercedes sedan that was stopped for traffic just north of Birch Street, said Brea police Lt. Bill Smyser.
The impact caused the sedan to hit two other vehicles in front of it, Smyser said.
Paramedics rushed Harkins to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where she was pronounced dead at 10:01 p.m. Saturday, according to the Orange County Coroner’s Office.
Police were dispatched to the scene of the crash at 9:22 p.m., where three adults who were passengers in one of the other vehicles were taken to local hospitals as a precaution with only minor complaints of pain. They were treated and released, Smyser said.
There was no indication that alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash, he said.
