Officers arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of burglary for reportedly trying to break into a supermarket in Huntington Beach via its roof.

Officers dispatched at 1:23 a.m. to the Albertsons at Atlanta Avenue and Magnolia Street on the ground found no suspects, when officers in a helicopter located a heat source on the roof, the Huntington Beach Police Department said.

From the roof, officers were able see a man hiding under an air duct. The suspect initially refused to come out, but after several orders, he surrendered.

“So with the less than cooperative suspect under arrest on the roof, the officers needed assistance to get him down to the ground in a safe manner,” according to the news statement. “HBFD used their rescue basket to safely secure the suspect and lower him to the ground.”

Dewayne Lee Contreras of Pomona was booked into the Huntington Beach city jail for suspicion of burglary.
