Two transients were rescued from a flood-control channel in Huntington Beach and three homes were threatened by a mudslide in Silverado Canyon as rain deluged Orange County Tuesday.
Two of three transients asleep under a bridge at Adams Avenue and Brookhurst Street had to be rescued from the rain-swollen flood-control channel about 9:45 a.m., according to Huntington Beach police Officer Jennifer Marlatt. Since it was on the border of Costa Mesa, that city’s firefighters rescued the transients, Marlatt said.
Meanwhile, a series of mudslides blocked Silverado Canyon Road and threatened three homes, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Shane Sherwood. One home in Silverado Canyon near the Maple Springs gate had three feet of mud stacked alongside of it and officials were examining it to make sure it was inhabitable or not, he said.
No one was injured in the mudslides, and all of the roads were cleared by this afternoon, Sherwood said.
