9-foot fall in Irvine parking garage requires firefighter rescue

A construction worker had to be rescued by firefighters when he fell about nine feet into a subterranean parking garage in Irvine while on the job Friday, a fire captain said.

The victim, in his 20s, fell into a spot with a four-by-eight opening and could not get out, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi.

The accident happened about 2:45 p.m. in the 2500 block of Main Street, Concialdi said.

Firefighters had to drop down a scissors lift to hoist him up and take him to an area hospital, where he was expected to recover from his back injury, Concialdi said.
