Someone stole a car in Santa Ana with a 7-month-old boy inside, but the vehicle was shortly found abandoned with the child safe inside.

The child’s father left the boy and his keys in the vehicle just before noon Friday when he went into a store in the 2500 block of Main Street, according to Santa Ana Police.

A patrol officer located the vehicle and the child at 12:11 p.m. in the 2500 block of South Evergreen Street, police said.

The child was asleep and sweating, so the officer put the boy inside his air conditioned patrol vehicle. Orange County Fire Authority personnel responded and found the boy to be unharmed.
