A “destructive device” found in a store parking lot in Anaheim was detonated by a sheriff’s bomb squad Friday night.

A worker found what looked like a pipe bomb on the ground in a Lowe’s parking lot at 1500 N. Lemon St. about 5:15 p.m., Anaheim police Detective Laura Lomeli said.

Store workers were evacuated through a door a safe distance from the device and a sheriff’s bomb squad was summoned, Lomeli said.

A robot was used to examine the item, which was determined to be a “destructive device,” Lomeli said.

The item was detonated and the all-clear was given about 7:15 p.m., she said.

Detectives were dispatched to investigate who put the device together and left it in the parking lot, Lomeli said.

Police will examine surveillance video as part of the investigation, she said.
