A man who tried to run across the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway in Costa Mesa was struck by a car and remained hospitalized Saturday in critical condition.
Witnesses told police the man who was hit tried to cross the southbound lanes when he was struck by a BMW 328i driven by a 16-year-old boy.
The incident took place shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, on the 55 Freeway near 19th Street, said Costa Mesa Police Lt. Greg Scott.
The driver stopped at the scene, cooperated with police and was not cited or arrested, Scott said.
The unidentified man suffered a skull fracture and brain injury, Scott continued. He was treated at the scene and then transported to a hospital in critical and unstable condition.
There’s no word yet regarding why the man was trying to run across part of the freeway.
