A small earthquake shook Orange County on Sunday when a 3.1 temblor struck near the bluffs above Newport Beach.

The quake was detected at 3:22 p.m. about a mile southeast of Newport Beach, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A 2.2 aftershock was felt several minutes later.

No immediate damage was reported.

Firefighters in Costa Mesa surveyed local streets and found no signs of damage.
