A 24-year-old man made his initial court appearance Wednesday on a charge of drugging a woman and raping her in Santa Ana.
Ernesto Mejia Cayo is charged with rape by use of drugs in a warrant issued Dec. 14, which led to his arrest Tuesday.
Cayo, whose arraignment Wednesday was rescheduled for Jan. 15, is accused of raping a 26-year-old woman on Sept. 20, according to Deputy District Attorney Kristin Bracic.
The woman had gone out with a relative and his girlfriend and came back to his place to crash for the night when she was allegedly drugged and raped by the defendant, who lived there, Bracic said.
