A 21-year-old man has been charged with vandalizing a Sikh Temple in Buena Park, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday.
Brodie Durazo of Buena Park was charged with vandalism of a religious property, a felony, and two misdemeanor counts of vandalism.
Durazo was scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 8.
Durazo is accused of graffiti attacks, including a profane reference to the terrorist group ISIS that was scrawled on a truck in the temple’s parking lot Dec. 6, according to police. The vandalism came four days after the mass shooting in San Bernardino that authorities suspect was an act of terrorism with ties to ISIS.
The defendant allegedly spray-painted graffiti throughout a trailer park where he lives on Orangethorpe Avenue and then vandalized a dividing wall between the trailer park and the Gurdwara Singh Sabha Temple, according to prosecutors. He also vandalized a tractor trailer parked in the temple’s lot, prosecutors alleged.
