A woman killed herself in Brea Wednesday morning, leaping onto the Orange (57) Freeway, where she was struck by a couple of vehicles, police said.

The suicide on the northbound 57 Freeway at the Imperial Highway offramp was reported at 2:25 a.m., according to Brea Police Lt. Darrin Devereux and the California Highway Patrol.

This incident occurred a few miles north of the site of a fatal truck accident in Fullerton near Yorba Linda Boulevard, according to the CHP.

The investigation into the suicide was being handled by the Brea Police Department, Devereux said.

“It’s a suicide and local police will handle those even though it’s on the freeway,” he said.

Devereux said the woman jumped from the overpass at Imperial Highway onto the 57 Freeway and was struck by one or two drivers, who stopped at the scene.

The suicide temporarily shut down all northbound lanes except the slow lane at Imperial Highway, according to Devereux and the CHP. Devereux said all the were reopened at Imperial Highway as of 5:45 a.m., but a traffic jam persisted on the 57 Freeway due to the fatal crash a few miles to the south.
