A body was found Tuesday about 1,000 feet from the Newport Pier, an Orange County sheriff’s lieutenant said.
Huntington Beach lifeguards found the unidentified male body about 11:30 a.m. and notified sheriff’s deputies, Lt. Mark Stichter said.
There was no immediate word on a possible cause of death or how long the body had been in the water.
Identification will likely have to be done by checking fingerprint records, authorities said.
