A 36-year-old drunken driver led Huntington Beach police on a short vehicle pursuit Sunday, and it ended with spike strips on Pacific Coast Highway near Bolsa Chica State Beach.
About 1:55 a.m., a police sergeant spotted two men acting suspiciously in front of a liquor store at Warner Avenue and Bolsa Chica Street, the Huntington Beach Police Department reported.
The men got into a vehicle and sped away. The sergeant attempted to make a routine traffic stop, police said.
A short pursuit began, and spike strips were deployed on Pacific Coast Highway near Bolsa Chica State Beach.
The driver, a 36-year-old resident of Long Beach, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, evading police and resisting arrest.
Police did not release the suspect’s name.
