A man was critically injured Tuesday when his vehicle crashed into the back of a grocery store truck in Fullerton, lodging his car under the big rig, authorities said.

The collision on West Bastanchury Road just west of Harbor Boulevard occurred about 2:55 a.m., said Fullerton Fire Department Battalion Chief Kathy Schaefer.

Schaefer said the speeding car hit the Ralphs grocery truck, which was moving, and became lodged under the back of the truck.

“Firefighters had to cut the man, who was in his 50s, out of the car,” Schaefer said. “It took 38 minutes to extricate him. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition.”

The crash remained under investigation by the Fullerton Police.
