Authorities evacuated a classroom at a Mission Viejo high school Thursday after getting a report a student may have placed an explosive there, but no harmful device was found, according to a sheriff’s lieutenant.
Around 8:30 a.m., some students at Trabuco Hills High School, 27501 Mustang Run, said they overheard a conversation regarding a possible explosive on campus, according to Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Stichter.
That information was relayed to the school’s resource deputy, who notified school officials and the school was then placed in “shelter in place” protocol, Stichter said.
A bomb squad was called in and the classroom was evacuated, but nothing harmful was found. The school was taken off the protocol a little after 10 a.m., Stichter said.
“The school will handle the student,” Stichter said. “I really can’t comment on what the school will do with the student. The school will be dealing with the student.”
