If you’re near the Balboa Pier at 11 a.m. Friday, you’ll get a rare chance to see the start of the annual Newport to Ensenada Yacht International Race, with more than 200 boats registered to compete in the 69th edition of the event.
The annual race from Newport Beach to Mexico will feature about 40 classes of boats competing through the weekend. The contest features a mix of serious yachters with expensive boats racing alongside more recreational hobbyists who hail from all over the country.
The race will continue through Sunday afternoon with a trophy presentation.
