A man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of deliberately crashing an SUV into the baby nutrition store where his wife works in Santa Ana.
Less than 30 minutes after his release from Santa Ana jail at 9 a.m., where he was locked up Monday night following a domestic violence call, Jose Franco went to Fabian Mother Nutrition at 119 S. Harbor Blvd, where he “attempted to restart the dispute with his wife,” according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.
Franco, who had been booked Monday night on suspicion of malicious damage to property, was prohibited from contacting his wife Tuesday because officers had obtained an emergency protective order overnight, Bertagna said.
The wife, whose name was not released, called police and Franco fled before officers arrived, Bertagna said.
Franco allegedly returned about 10:25 a.m. and deliberately drove the vehicle through the front of the store, breaking a large plate glass window and door, Bertagna said.
The woman was unharmed physically, but she was so overwhelmed emotionally by the incident that she was taken to an area hospital, Bertagna said.
No one else was injured in the crash, Bertagna said. Franco, who ran away following the crash, was picked up a couple of blocks away, Bertagna said.
