A phoned-in threat about a suitcase left in the parking lot of the Santa Ana DMV office triggered an evacuation and lockdown at a nearby school, but investigators later determined it was harmless.
A call was made about 1:30 p.m. that there was a black suitcase left in the parking lot of the DMV office at 1330 E. First St., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Florentino Olivera.
Everyone was ordered out of the building and the nearby Raymond A. Villa Intermediate School was placed in lockdown as bomb squad investigators checked the suitcase, which was found to contain only papers.
The lockdown was lifted just before 3:30 p.m., Olivera said.
