An accidental kitchen fire caused more than $1.5 million in damage Wednesday to a restaurant in a strip mall in Garden Grove, a fire captain said.

The non-injury blaze at Claws Restaurant at 12093 Brookhurst St., just south of Chapman Avenue, was reported at 3:21 a.m. and was extinguished in about three hours, said Garden Grove fire Capt. Thanh Nguyen.

About 75 firefighters were sent to the scene, including personnel from the Garden Grove and Anaheim fire departments and the Orange County Fire Authority, Nguyen said.

“An investigation by Garden Grove fire investigators revealed the fire to have originated in the kitchen, and determined to be accidental,” Nguyen said.

Damage was estimated to be more than $1 million to the structure and more than $500,000 to the contents, Nguyen said.
