A woman threatening to jump off an overpass caused officials to close the 5 Freeway in Santa Ana during the evening rush hour Friday, backing up traffic for miles.
Emergency officials responded at 4:04 p.m. to the Lincoln Avenue Overpass, where the unidentified woman was threatening to jump. All southbound lanes of the 5 were closed at Grand Avenue, as were all northbound lanes except for the carpool lane.
The woman was talked down at about 4:15 p.m., said Capt. Stephen Horner of the Orange County Fire Authority. The freeway was reopened a short time later.
The woman will be taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.
