Two teenagers were arrested and a third was sought for vandalizing police cars during violent protests outside a rally for presumptive Republican presidential standard-bearer Donald Trump almost six weeks ago, Costa Mesa Police said Tuesday.
The arrested suspects, ages 17 and 16, live in Costa Mesa, Costa Mesa Police Lt. Joyce LaPointe said.
The vandalism occurred April 28 at the Pacific Amphitheater on the Orange County fairgrounds.
Most of the unrest took place along Fair Drive, from Fairview Road to Newport Boulevard. Six patrol cars were damaged, as were a number of civilian vehicles.
Law enforcement personnel from multiple Orange County jurisdictions sent help to control the crowd.
Two assaults were reported as well. A rock struck a Costa Mesa Police officer on his helmet, and another person was punched in the head, police said.
The suspect still at-large is a male who was wearing black pants, a white shirt, black cap with green under the bill, gray shoes and a gray shirt over his mouth.
