An ex-con on probation and another man, both from Santa Ana, were in custody Wednesday for allegedly being caught with a loaded firearm that had been used in a 2010 burglary.
The two men were arrested after a traffic stop in which Irvine police allegedly found in the suspects’ vehicle the firearm, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, according to officials.
Rigoberto Donan, 36, and Frank Perez, 45, were pulled over near the San Diego (405) Freeway and Sand Canyon Avenue, the Irvine Police Department said Wednesday.
A police officer found the contraband upon finding out that Perez was on probation, police said. The weapon had been stolen in a burglary in the city in 2010.
The men were taken into custody around 11 p.m. Monday without incident, police said.
Donan remained in custody on $45,000 bail, while Perez was held without bail, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Perez spent time in jail two years ago in connection with drug charges and evading police, the Orange County Register reported, citing court records.
