A 73-year-old man was killed in a crash in Irvine Wednesday afternoon.
The man, whose name was not immediately released, was driving south on Alton Parkway when the Mazda sport utility vehicle he was in slammed into a tree in the center median, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz.
Firefighters responded to the crash at 4:45 p.m. and freed the victim from the vehicle, but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Kurtz said.
It was not immediately known what caused the crash.
