The increase amounts to about 2,800 more California-resident freshmen. UCI also admitted 27.3 percent more transfer students from community colleges compared with last year.
The grade-point average mean for the California residents admitted to UCI is 4.10 with an average SAT score of 1,857, officials said.
The mean GPA for community college students is 3.54.
Other statistics of note include 41.6 percent of admitted students holding the status of the first in their families to attend college and 31.7 percent of the admissions are “underrepresented minorities,” black, American Indian and Chicano/Latino. That pool of students has increased by 1,166 compared to 2014.
