An SUV slammed into three female pedestrians waiting in the middle of a Santa Ana street to cross it, and one of the three was killed.

The driver sped off after the collision, at about 12:20 a.m. on Hazard Avenue, just west of Harbor Boulevard, according to Santa Ana police.

The three women were standing in the center turn lane of Hazard Avenue when two of them were hit by a SUV, according to police. The SUV then sped away from the scene, according to witnesses.

The two stricken women were transported to a hospital for treatment of their injuries. One of the women died on the way to the hospital, according to police.

“The other woman was in the hospital and was still alive this afternoon,” Santa Ana police Sgt. Dominic Padilla said. “There’s been no update on her condition.”

The name of the dead woman was withheld pending notification of her survivors.

Padilla said the only description they have of the hit-and-run driver is that he was a “male Hispanic driving a black SUV.”

Santa Ana police asked anyone with information on this hit-and-run driver to call them at (714) 245-8200.
