A fire that torched Bayside Restaurant in Newport Beach caused about $50,000 in damage, but no one was injured, firefighters said Friday.
The blaze started at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday in the eatery at 900 Bayside Drive, according to the Newport Beach Fire Department.
Everyone in the restaurant got out safely before firefighters from Newport and Costa Mesa arrived. The blaze was concentrated in an enclosed mechanical loft area over the restaurant’s bathrooms, firefighters said.
Firefighters managed to contain the flames to the attic area with the inside of the restaurant sustaining only minor smoke and water damage.
They had trouble getting to the fire in the confined space, but after knocking down the blaze they also were able to restore electricity so food wouldn’t spoil in the eatery’s coolers, authorities said
