Five men were arrested Friday in connection with the “love triangle” killing of a Perris resident who investigators suspect was lured to his death near Trabuco Creek in San Juan Capistrano.
A high-placed source told City News Service the victim — identified as 38-year-old Alvaro Rios — was part of a “love triangle,” and that his killers lured him to his death. Rios’ body was found near the dead end of Trabuco Creek Road about 10 a.m. July 13.
According to the sheriff’s department, investigators arrested Ashkan Dezhangfard, 22, of San Juan Capistrano; Ryan Huebnar, 20, of Laguna Niguel; Siavish Hosseinaliarhani, 18, of Laguna Niguel; Angelica Shiabata, 28, of San Juan Capistrano; and Brion Hyde, 22, of San Juan Capistrano.
They were all booked on suspicion of murder and conspiracy and were being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
An official with knowledge of the case told CNS that the victim, who was from Perris and was married with children, was lured to his death.
A woman with whom he had a romantic relationship was allegedly involved in the conspiracy to kill him. She was also romantically involved with one of the arrestees and was living with him and another one of the suspects, the source said.
Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Stichter said investigators were still working on establishing a motive.
“We’re still looking at specifically what brought them all together,” Stichter said at a news conference announcing the arrests.
Stitchter acknowledged “there was a relationship between the victim and one of the suspects,” but he declined to go into specifics because investigators were working to determine the nature of that relationship.
Rios had been reported missing the day of his death, Stichter said.
It appears the body was found by a passerby about 10 a.m., but sheriff’s deputies were not notified until just after 1 p.m., according to sheriff’s officials.
