A wrong-way motorist driving drunk triggered a two-vehicle crash in Fullerton Sunday that killed one of the passengers in the first car, according to police.
The driver of a black 2016 Honda Civic and two other passengers were rushed to an area trauma center with major injuries. The fatality was also rushed to the trauma center and was later pronounced dead, Fullerton police Sgt. Jon Radus said.
The Honda was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of the 700 block of South Lemon Street when it collided with a black 2004 Lincoln Aviator, which was going northbound, Radus said.
Officers dispatched to the scene a little after 2:30 a.m. found both vehicles in the northbound lanes, he said. The driver of the Lincoln was not injured and remained at the scene.
“It appears both drivers were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision,” Radus said. “The driver of the Lincoln was initially taken into custody on suspicion of drunken driving, but was later released pending further investigation.”
The Fullerton Police Department’s Traffic Bureau asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (714) 738-5313.
