Nine people were recovering Monday after a man driving his vehicle at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre struck a fence, another vehicle, pedestrians and an unoccupied police vehicle, authorities said.

Authorities had not yet said what may have caused the incident that was reported at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday at the amphitheater at 8808 Irvine Center Drive, said Irvine police Commander Mike Hallinan.

No one was cited or arrested. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash, Hillinan said.

Five people were taken to hospitals including four traumas and one with minor injuries, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Alan Wilkes.

The cause of the crash was under investigation by Irvine police, Hallinan said.

The Pacific Symphony was about to perform in concert at the amphitheater.

Police asked witnesses to call Detective Jon Cherney at (949) 724-7024.
