Federal authorities Sunday began the process of trying to figure out why the pilot of a light plane may have experienced the scare of a lifetime when the out-of-control aircraft skidded off the runway after landing at Fullerton Airport.

Neither of the two people on board was hurt, authorities said.

The incident happened at the airport at 4011 West Commonwealth Ave., said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor. The out-of-control landing was reported at 2:06 p.m. Saturday, according to the Fullerton Fire Department.

“The pilot of a Piper PA18, tail number N906CC, lost control after landing and ran off Runway 24,” Gregor said. “Neither of the two people on board was injured.”

There was no word of damage to the aircraft, and no further details were available over the weekend.

The FAA will investigate, he said.
