A knife-wielding man injured three people Monday at a nonprofit that serves meals to the indigent in Orange before he was subdued by police.

The attack happened about 1:40 p.m. at Mary’s Kitchen at 517 W. Struck Ave., according to Lt. Fred Lopez of the Orange Police Department.

A man was stabbed in his abdomen and taken to a hospital, Lopez said. The victim, whose wounds were not considered life-threatening, was a volunteer at the nonprofit, which provides meals, clothes and showers to the poor.

Another man, who was a patron of Mary’s Kitchen, and a woman, who volunteers at the nonprofit, suffered “superficial” wounds and declined hospital treatment, Lopez said.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, would not drop the knife when officers arrived, Lopez said. Officers used a stun gun to subdue the suspect, who is in his 40s and was a Mary’s Kitchen patron. He was taken to a hospital to be treated, Lopez said.
