Cellular service for T-Mobile subscribers is now available along Metro’s Red and Purple lines between Koreatown and downtown Los Angeles, it was announced Friday.

The service will be available along the tunnels and stations from the Wilshire/Western to Union Station. Those taking the Blue and Expo lines at the 7th Street Metro Center Station will also have cell service.

Metro in recent months also have added Verizon and Sprint service, and are still negotiating a contract for AT&T subscribers.

Board Chair John Fasana said cell service will allow rider to “stay connected while traveling underground.”

Metro officials also noted that emergencies can be reported while on the trains or in the stations by calling 911 or using an intercom system.

Riders can also use Metro’s Transit Watch smartphone app to report problems to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
