A 71-year-old woman in Westminster was struck and killed by a motorist, who stayed at the scene, authorities said Saturday.
The pedestrian was later identified as Hoa Duong of Westminster, according to the coroner’s office.
“Based on the scene and witnesses, we believe some sort of right-of-way violation occurred at the crosswalk,” said Costa Mesa Police Cmdr. Cameron Knauerhaze. “Both vehicles and pedestrians have a duty to look out for each other and watch the traffic lights for direction.”
Officers dispatched at 8:22 a.m. Friday to Bolsa Avenue and Magnolia Street found Duong injured in the street, Knauerhaze said.
“At the time, the victim was alert and spoke to medics,” he said. The motorist stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors in the accident.
Paramedics rushed Duong to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where she died from her injuries at 4:25 p.m. Friday, according to the coroner’s office.
The Westminster Police Department’s Traffic Division asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (714) 548-3777.
