One person was killed and another seriously injured when a wrong-way pickup truck driver allegedly steered into oncoming traffic and crashed into a minivan in Seal Beach.
Officials were investigating the possibility that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, but there has been no determination yet, according to Seal Beach police Sgt. Mike Henderson.
The crash occurred on Westminster Avenue between Seal Beach Boulevard and Bolsa Chica Road where the boulevard passes through the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station, Henderson said.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that a pickup truck driving east on Westminster Avenue passed over the center median into oncoming traffic and struck a minivan which was traveling westbound,” Henderson said.
“The driver of the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the truck was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.”
The Orange County coroner’s office indicated the deceased victim was a female, but her name, age and city of residence were not disclosed after the 1:40 p.m. crash Friday.
Anyone with information about the crash was urged to call Seal Beach police Officer Erin Enos at (562) 799-4100, extension 1605.
