A family dog caught inside a home fire was being treated Wednesday for injuries in the blaze, while a second pooch was safely outside the structure.

The fire erupted in the Cypress home while the residents were away.

The fire was reported in the 4500 block of Wellington Court, Capt. Larry Kurtz of the Orange County Fire Authority said.

Twenty-six firefighters responded and quickly extinguished the fire Tuesday, but not before it caused smoke damage inside the residence, Kurtz said.

Firefighters found one dog in the back yard and another on a second floor, Kurtz said. The dog that was outside was OK, but the one that was inside the house is in the care of a veterinarian, he said.

That animal’s condition was not available, according to Kurtz, who said the home’s residents were on a trip out of town.

The cause of the blaze was not yet determined.
