A 55-year-old suspected drunk driver was finally taken into custody Saturday morning in Seal Beach after a high-speed pursuit and several crashes, including a collision with one of the police cars.

The pursuit began when Seal Beach officers were notified about a suspected drunk drive in the area of Westminster Avenue and Seal Beach Boulevard about 12:45 a.m., according to Seal Beach Police Sgt. Mike Henderson.

Officers tried to pull over the driver but he sped off, colliding with a center divider and at least one police car, Henderson said.

The chase finally ended when the driver collided with two other vehicles at the intersection of First Street and Pacific Coast Highway.

Dennis Cusick of Mission Viejo was finally taken into custody by police, Henderson continued. Several people involved in the various accidents were treated at hospitals for minor injuries. And PCH was shut down at the location where Cusick was stopped for about an hour in both directions for the investigation.

Cusick was booked on a number of charges, including felony driving under the influence, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, hit and run and felony evading, Henderson said.

There is no word yet on what his bail was set at, or on his arraignment date.
