A two-mile stretch of ocean off Huntington Beach remained off-limits to swimmers and surfers Monday due to a weekend shark sighting.
The roughly 9- to 10-foot-long shark was spotted near the Huntington Beach Pier around 1 p.m. Sunday. City officials said the shark was not acting aggressively, but the water was declared off-limits as a precaution.
The closure stretches from Beach Boulevard to Goldenwest Street, roughly one mile on either side of the pier.
“The beach remains open for land-based activities,” according to a notice from the city, which said the closure was expected to last about 24 hours.
