A cyclist was killed Wednesday by a hit-and-run driver in Stanton, and a suspect was later tracked down for questioning.

The collision happened between 2:30 to 2:40 a.m. at Chapman Avenue and Beach Boulevard, said Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Mark Stichter.

The man, whose name was withheld pending notification of his family, died at an area hospital, Stichter said.

A 44-year-old man called law enforcement about the collision and Garden Grove police later tracked him down and detained him, Stichter said. Orange County sheriff’s investigators then began questioning him, the lieutenant said.

The driver, whose name was withheld, was booked on suspicion of violating probation, but was not immediately arrested in connection with the hit-and-run, Stichter said.
