A phoned-in threat and the discovery of a “suspicious package” at the North Orange County Community College District building triggered an evacuation of students and staff and the cancellation of classes for the remainder of the day.

An anonymous caller told school officials just before 12:45 p.m. that two people were headed over to the building at 1830 W. Romneya Drive “to commit acts of violence,” according to Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt.

While searching the building, police found a suspicious package, Wyatt said. A bomb squad was called to the scene and was later determined not to be a threat.

Officials evacuated the building and “all students and staff are safe,” Wyatt said around 2:45 p.m.

All classes at the school, including continuing education, were canceled for the rest of the day, and Romneya was closed between Euclid Street and Anaheim Shores.
