A six-month-old baby was killed and four adults were hurt in a vehicle fire on a Tustin freeway, authorities said Saturday.

It was reported at 11:24 p.m. Friday on the southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway connection to the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway, just north of Tustin Ranch Road, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatcher.

The baby, whose gender was not immediately reported, died at the scene, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz.

Responders found the mini van in flames with five people, including the baby, inside, Kurtz said. Three men and one woman were taken to local hospitals for treatment but their conditions were not known.

The CHP issued a SigAlert for the closure of the three right southbound lanes of the 5 at Tustin Ranch Road, as well as the Tustin Ranch Road off-ramp for the investigation until at least 2 a.m.
