While you could almost hear the scary them from “Jaws,” a real-life giant shark in the water off Newport Beach is apparently looking for its next tasty bite somewhere else.
Lifeguards at Newport Beach Thursday reopened a section of beach closed after a helicopter crew spotted the prowling predator near 36th Street.
The sighting was reported on the Newport Beach lifeguards’ Twitter page about 6 p.m. Wednesday, prompting lifeguards to close a two-mile stretch of the ocean overnight as a precaution.
There were no reports of any contact between the 8-foot shark and people.
The beach was reopened Thursday morning, lifeguards said.
