A 55-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by an SUV Thursday in Huntington Beach, and the motorist involved in the crash was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired, police said.

The crash was reported at 4:04 a.m. on Beach Boulevard north of Edinger Avenue, Huntington Beach police Officer Jennifer Marlatt said.

The injured man died at a hospital, Marlatt said. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.

Anastasia Hull, 34, of Lakewood was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Marlatt said.

According to the preliminary investigation, Hull was driving a 2000 BMW SUV north on Beach Boulevard when the vehicle slammed into a light pole, an electrical box, a traffic signal and then the pedestrian, according to Huntington Beach police Sgt. Julio Mendez. Hull remained at the scene, and was taken into custody.
