A 62-year-old man killed when he was tossed into a stop sign after he crashed his Harley Davidson motorcycle on a Fullerton street was publicly identified Monday.

He was Fullerton resident Steve Barnard, according to the Orange County coroner’s office.

The crash occurred at 1:15 p.m. Sunday on Commonwealth Avenue, east of Brookhurst Street, Fullerton police Sgt. Jon Radus said.

The rider now identified as Barnard was heading east on Commonwealth Avenue when he lost control of the bike, Radus said.

The motorcycle hit the south curb line of Brookhurst Street, ejecting Barnard, who then apparently hit a stop sign posted on the south sidewalk of Commonwealth Avenue, Radus said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved.
