A man was threatening to jump from an overpass connecting the Santa Ana (5) and Orange (57) freeways, tying up traffic just before afternoon rush hour.

Authorities were alerted at 3:17 p.m. Thursday that the unidentified man who was threatening to jump from the Bristol Street-La Veta Avenue overpass to the two freeways in Santa Ana, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Agustin Latosquin.

Authorities shut down the north lanes of the 57 to the 5, and the eastbound Garden Grove (22) Freeway lanes to the northbound 57, Latosquin said. The westbound lanes of the 22 to the northbound 57 connector were also closed.

Firefighters were attempting to put a “jump bag” down to catch the man if he tumbles over the overpass, Latosquin said.
