A lucky Orange County victim was recovering Tuesday from a grisly, painful accident in which his or her hand was caught and mangled in hydraulic equipment in Huntington Beach.

It wasn’t yet clear how the victim’s hand was caught, nor the extent of damage suffered. But it could have been a lot worse for the victim.

“Paramedics treated the patient for pain while the rescue effort ensued,” Firefighter-paramedic Marco Tello said. “Ultimately hydraulic power tools were used to cut a chain and free the victim’s hand.”

The patient, whose gender, age and condition were not immediately disclosed, was then taken to a hospital, Tello said.

The victim’s hand became caught about 10:15 a.m. Monday in the 8800 block of Burlcrest Drive, according to the Huntington Beach Fire Department.
