An Anaheim freeway traffic mess was cleared just before the start of the morning rush hour Monday after one person was killed and one vehicle overturned in a spectacular crash involving at least six vehicles on the southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Anaheim.

The crash was reported just before midnight Sunday near the Lincoln Avenue off-ramp and the Disneyland HOV off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol. Two vehicles collided and hit the center divider, and one overturned, the CHP said.

Four other vehicles were found on the right hand shoulder.

One person was confirmed dead at the scene, the CHP said. The Orange County coroner would note only that the deceased was male.

The CHP issued a SigAlert at 11:50 p.m. for the HOV and Number 1 lanes of the southbound Santa Ana freeway just south of Lincoln Avenue and the Disneyland HOV off-ramp for its investigation. The SigAlert was cancelled at 3:57 a.m. when the freeway was clear for reopening.
