Authorities Sunday were investigating the deadly Irvine crash of a speeding two-seat Chevrolet Corvette that killed two women passengers and critically injured the male driver.

The sports car sheared off a fire hydrant in the early morning crash a few minutes after bars close in California.

There was no word if alcohol or drugs may have played a part in the Saturday crash.

There was also no word of how the two women and the driver were sitting in the vehicle designed for two people, nor if anyone was strapped in with seat belts.

The Orange County coroner’s office has released the names of the of two women killed.

The two have been identified as Nancy Ortiz, 26, of Garden Grove; and 26- year-old Jamie Lopez of Santa Ana.

Both were passengers in the car.

The women were pronounced dead at the scene and the man was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition, the Orange County Fire Authority reported.

The crash occurred on northbound Jamboree Road, between Main Street and Kelvin Avenue, and police were dispatched to the scene about 2:20 a.m., Detective Jonathan Cherney of the Irvine Police Department said.

A fire hydrant was sheared off in the crash.

Irvine police detectives asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (949) 724-7024.
