A man suspected of trespassing on the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach military base was arrested Monday after he allegedly attempted to force his way into a vehicle while fleeing from police.

There was no immediate word of why authorities believe the man was on the military base grounds.

Security officers at the base observed the man trespassing and called Seal Beach police for assistance as they tracked the suspect, according to Seal Beach police Sgt. Michael Henderson.

The suspect was spotted climbing over the perimeter fence and ran onto Seal Beach Boulevard near the Leisure World retirement community.

Vehicle traffic stopped for the fleeing suspect and pursuing officers, Henderson said.

Police observed the man, identified as 43-year-old Elin Carrillo- Hernandez of Los Angeles, attempt to force his way into a stopped vehicle, but the suspect was unable to gain access to the car, Henderson said. He was apprehended by officers soon after.

Carrillo-Hernandez was arrested and booked at the Orange County jail on charges of attempted carjacking, resisting arrest and possession of narcotics paraphernalia, according to Henderson.
