A 40-year-old man was hospitalized late Thursday night after being shot with a speargun on a transition road between the 405 and 605 freeways in Rossmoor.
Orange County Fire Authority personnel arriving on the scene just after 10 p.m. found the victim with a chest wound lying near the side of the road.
The attacker fled the scene and no physical description was immediately available. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
